Dorothea achieves her dream body thanks to cosmetic surgery
It was a season of many ‘firsts’ for Dorothea Adam… It was her first time in Kenya. It was also her first time to travel by air both locally and internationally. And it was her first time in the coastal town of Mombasa and her first time to have surgery too.
Dorothea Adam had been toying with the idea of cosmetic surgery for quite a while. When she finally made up her mind to travel from Dar es Salaam, Tanzania to Mombasa, Kenya, Viva Serenity organized her trip to ensure that she had a stress-free medical tour. Viva facilitated her Covid 19 testing, passport, travel arrangements, transfers, hotel bookings, hospitals, aftercare, and the trip back home. Viva also organized for a two-day tour of the coastal town before surgery. “Viva Serenity took care of all the logistics of my medical tour and my travel experience was wonderful,” says Dorothea. “All I needed to do was show up,” says the 25-year-old Tanzanian.
The team of three from Viva Serenity had traveled all the way to Mombasa to be with Dorothea and had linked up with one more member who was in Mombasa. “The team members treated me well and were there every step of the way,” says Dorothea. The Viva team was on standby and ensured that Dorothea enjoyed her stay in Mombasa before her surgery. “We visited a number of places, most of which I had only heard of,” she says. This helped to get rid of any tension that would arise and to help her relax as she awaited surgery.
October 10th, 2021, her date with the surgeon was finally here and she was excited about achieving her ideal body, a body she had only dreamed of and admired in fashion magazines. Dorothea was clear about what she wanted: A flat stomach, a larger and fuller butt, wider hips, and thinner arms, and she had expressed her desire to the surgeon during the pre-op consultation.
A native Swahili speaker, Viva Serenity ensured that all medical consultations and every other conversation or interview were conducted in Kiswahili or a translator was present. After a thorough assessment of her body visa vi her desires, our board-certified plastic surgeon advised her to have both liposuction and a tummy tuck to address her concerns.
When she came to, the transformation was noticeable. “I can’t believe I finally did it!” says Dorothea. “I have high expectations I’ll be up and running soon because I have received excellent medical services,” she says. The Viva Serenity team was also there during and after surgery. And they were there to help her before she regained her strength.
Liposuction works by removing excess fat under the skin while abdominoplasty (tummy tuck) works by removing excess skin and tightening muscles in the abdominal wall to produce a more toned and slimmer appearance. The result was just what Dorothea had dreamed of; a flat tummy, a larger butt, and a wider hip area.
A week after her surgery, Dorothea was recuperating well and though she was still on antibiotics and painkillers, she was able to pretty much do personal stuff for herself and walk around. Immediately after surgery, one may be unable to stand fully upright due to swelling and bruising until internal healing is complete. Dorothea will also continue to wear compression undergarments for 6 – 8 weeks after surgery.
It may take up to six months or more until the final results of the liposuction. During that time, the swelling gradually resolves and some degree of skin tightening may occur leading to an even more visually appealing result by year-end.
After the surgeon allowed Dorothea to travel, Viva Serenity flew her to Nairobi where she met and interacted with other members of the team. Dorothea who had taken the bus to Mombasa from Dar es Salaam was pleasantly surprised when Viva Serenity found it fit for her to take a flight back home after the procedure for her comfort and to avoid the tedious nine-hour bus ride, which can be quite uncomfortable after surgery. “The team from Viva Serenity supported me every step of the way,” says Dorothea.
